CARMeN

The CARMeN (Cancer NMR) project through a consortium between the University Hospitals of Strasbourg, Strasbourg University, CNRS and Bruker BioSpin, was certified on 20 December 2006 by the Competitiveness Cluster “Therapeutic Innovations” of the Region Alsace and funded up to 2.7 million euros.

This project allowed us to create a metabolomics database in several types of cancers in order to :

  1. Establish an inventory of metabolites in each subtype of tumor
  2. Assess the intrinsic heterogeneity of tumors
  3. Search for predictive metabolic fingerprints of poor prognosis and/or response to therapy

We, like many other groups, believe that the strategy of using the phenotype, in other terms the metabolic footprint of tumors as evaluation criteria is a very promising strategy for the identification of high-risk cancers and the development of personalized treatments.
